MAROCCO TOUR 5 DAYS
Day 1: Casablanca
Arrival at Casablanca, assistance, transfer to the hotel, overnight
Day 2: Casablanca – Rabat – Tangier
In the morning, departure toward Rabat, the capital of the Kingdom of Morocco. Rabat is known as the ‘White City’, owing to its whitewashed narrow streets, its beautiful houses with overhanging balconies and ornate doors of multicolored mosaics. We will visit Med V Mausoleum and Hassan Tower. Rabat’s most famous landmark is the Tour Hassan, which overlooks the bridge to Sale. This historic minaret was begun in 1195 and was intended to be
the largest and highest in the world. Meant to reach a height of more than 60 m, it only made it to 44 m. The tower still stands but little remains of the adjacent mosque which was destroyed by an earthquake in 1755. Only the re-erected but shattered pillars stand as a reminder of the grand plans of Althe Mausoleum of Mohamed V. Arrival at Casablanca, assistance, transfer to
the hotel, overnight After lunch, you will continue on to Tangier. There are two different ideas about the origins of Tangier, the Berber and the Greek. According to the Berber legend, Tangier was founded following the return of a dove from the Arch of Noah with soil in its claws, indicating that there was a new world – Tanja in Berber language The Greek version states that Tangier derives from the name “Tingi”, daughter of the giant Anthee. For the ancient Greek authors Tangier was “the most beautiful city of the known world, a region of gods where the men are the tallest and most beautiful that one can find.” If this is (still) true, you have to decide for yourself. Because of its geographical situation Tangier has always been the door to Africa. For a long time it used to be an important international meeting point, until it became stronger attached to Morocco A visit to the outskirts of Tangier is included as well. Big houses with big fences dominate the scene, so probably the rich are living here. You also get the opportunity to
ride a camel; the whole tour takes about 7 hours Also you will visit Ibn Battuta’s birthplace and home, the great traveler of the 14th century who made it his life’s work to travel the full extent of the Dar al-Islam and write about it. Like Marco Polo before him, Ibn Battuta made use of the Pax Mongolica to travel from his home to points as far flung as now Mali and now Indonesia Evening, back to the hotel, dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Tangier – Tetouan – Fez
In the morning, after breakfast, we will visit Tetoaun… “The White Pigeon” The old Royal Palace, a 17th century building, at Place Hassan II (Hassan II Square) is itself a reflection of the
Hispano-Moresque architecture. The palace is closed to public entry but its main ornate gate Bab Er-Rouah can give you a mental idea of what it’s beyond and photos are allowed to be taken. Place Hassan II, where the old and new town meet, is the dynamic heart of Tetouan. It’s a square so grab a coffee at a nearby restaurant (reported to have the best coffee flavor in Morocco) and do some people watching. In the evening we will continue our way to Fez, dinner
and overnight. In the morning, city sightseeing visiting the Old Kasbah and its IX century streets. Afternoon free to continue discovering this exciting city on your own. Fes is one of the oldest of the imperial cities of Morocco, having been founded shortly after the Arabs swept across North Africa following the death of the Prophet. Fes el-Bali is the original old walled Medina and is one of the largest and most interesting in the world. It is an incredible maze of twisting alleys, arches, mosques, medersas, shrines, fountains, workshops and markets. Dinner and accommodation.
Day 4: FES – Meknes – Casablanca.
In the morning, departure toward Meknes, Often referred to as the Versailles of Morocco, Meknes is located between the fertile plain of Rharb and the Middle Among the most impressive elements of Meknes as an imperial city, is the grand gate named after the architect,
El-Mansour, a Christian renegade who converted to Islam. It was completed 5 years after Moulay Ismail’s death, in 1732. The design of the gate plays with Almohad patterns. It has zellij mosaics of excellent quality. The marble columns were taken from the Roman ruins of Volubilis. According to historical records, the gate was finished after Moulay Ismail’s death. The gate itself is now used as an arts and crafts gallery with an entrance by the side gate. Lunch in the heart of the medina at Zitouna, a charming restaurant serving traditional Moroccan cuisine. After lunch, continue the tour of Meknes, you will explore Dar el-Kebira, a fortified quarter that is known as the imperial city. Dar el-Keibra is four times as large as the medina and has wide avenues and squares that are protected by a double line of walls and angled gates. In the evening, we will leave Meknes toward Casablanca, Dinner and accommodation.
